ICC Awards 2023: Suryakumar Yadav wins T20I Cricketer of the Year
ICC announced ICC Awards for the performance based on the year 2023. Indian star middle order explosive batter Suryakumar Yadav wins T20I Cricketer of the Year, second consecutive year.
SKY aggregated 733 runs at an average of 48.86 and a strike rate of 155.95 in 17 T20I innings in 2023. Likes of Sikandar Raza, Alpesh Ramjani and Mark Chapman were also in the run for this award but SKY overcame the tough competition with his superb performance through the year.
Yadav prospered in spite of the new role of captaincy, assuming control over a young side towards the year's end.
Suryakumar made brilliant half centuries against Australia (80 off 42 balls) and South Africa (56 from 36 balls), before scoring a terrific 100 against South Africa off only 56 balls in their last T20I of the year in Johannesburg.
The most memorable inning of the year would probably be his inning against Sri Lanka where he showcased a range of inside-out drives and smart play behind the wicket. His knock of 112 off 51 balls included nine sixes and seven fours.
