Nitish resigns amidst political crisis, to form new Govt with BJP

Nitish resigns

Nitish Kumar finally resigns amidst major political crisis in Bihar. Nitish set to take oath today itself with BJP support. Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha to take oath as Deputy CMs from BJP quota. Manjhi led HAM party have already announced their support to NDA.

On Sunday, Bihar Governor Rajendra Arlekar received a resignation letter from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who announced his resignation. "I met the governor today and submitted my resignation as Bihar's chief minister." Speaking to the media following his meeting with the Governor and formal departure from the Mahagathbandhan, he added, "I have also instructed the Governor to dissolve the government in the state." It has been scheduled that Nitish will now be receiving an official letter of support from parties during a gathering of NDA leaders. This development represents another Nitish coup, this time against the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

Less than 18 months after severing ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party, all is now set for the JD(U) to rejoin the National Democratic Alliance. With a letter of support from the BJP, Nitish is also expected to stake claim to form an NDA government. This will be his third time taking the oath as chief minister of Bihar since the 2020 elections.

It will be interesting to watch how these political parties take up the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024 and Vidhan Sabha elections in 2025.
