Tanmay Agarwal breaks Fastest First Class Triple Century
On Friday, January 26, at the NexGen Cricket Ground in Hyderabad, during the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023/24 Plate Group match between Hyderabad and Arunachal Pradesh, a number of records were broken. Tanmay Agarwal, a 28-year-old left-handed opener, was the main contribution. After the visitors were skittled out for 172 in 39.4 overs, he scored the fastest triple-ton in first-class cricket history to put his side ahead.
Agarwal needed 147 balls to achieve his triple-ton, which is the fastest in first-class cricket ever in terms of balls taken. This figure is significantly higher than the 191 balls that Marco Marais of Border needed against Eastern Province in 2017.
In first-class cricket, where balls-faced statistics is available, Agarwal reached his double century in 119 balls, making him the second-fastest player to reach the milestone. The only player who did it faster was Shafiqullah Shinwari, who did so for Kabul Region against Boost Region in Asadabad in 2017/18 in 89 balls.
At the time, Ravi Shastri's record of 123 balls against Baroda for Mumbai (formerly Bombay) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai was the highest for an Indian. It was set in 1984–85.
