Ischemic Stroke: Mithun Chakraborty hospitalized in Kolkata
Veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty (73) has been hospitalized in the Emergency ward at Apollo Hospitals in Kolkata due to Ischemic Stroke,
An ischemic stroke happens when the blood flow to a part of the brain is blocked or decreased, leading to a lack of oxygen and nutrients to the affected area. This causes brain cells to start dying within minutes. Another type of stroke is a hemorrhagic stroke, which occurs when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures and causes bleeding. The build-up of blood puts pressure on brain cells and causes damage.
Earlier, Mithun's son Mimoh Chakraborty provided reassurance that his father's hospital visit was merely for a routine checkup. Mithun Chakraborty, who is also a BJP leader, was admitted to the hospital at approximately 10:30 am on Saturday.
Recently, Mithun Chakraborty was honored with the Padma Bhushan, a prestigious civilian award in India. In a heartfelt video message, he expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, attributing it to years of dedication and perseverance. "After a lot of struggle and hard work, I have finally received such an honour. It is a feeling I can't express. I am dedicating this to all my fans in India and abroad, who have given me unconditional love," he said in the video message.
The esteemed actor, known for his remarkable contributions to Indian cinema, most recently graced the screen as a judge on the popular dance reality show, Dance Bangla Dance.
Mithun is renowned for his impactful and versatile performances in both Bengali and Hindi cinema. With a career spanning decades, he has graced over 160 films with his presence. His journey in the world of cinema commenced in 1976 with the art house drama Mrigayaa, a role that earned him his first National Film Award for Best Actor.
However, it was his portrayal of Jimmy in the 1982 musical sensation Disco Dancer that catapulted him to unparalleled stardom. This iconic character not only solidified his status as a dancing sensation in India but also garnered him immense popularity in Russia. Disco Dancer marked a historic milestone as the first Indian film to surpass the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mithun has delivered memorable performances in a plethora of films, including Hum Paanch, Sahhas, Wardat, Shaukeen, Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Ghulami, Dilwaala, Swarag Se Sunder, Dance Dance, Watan Ke Rakhwale, Pyar Ka Mandir, Mujrim, Agneepath, and Ravan Raaj.
Despite facing challenges in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Mithun made a triumphant comeback with roles in critically acclaimed films such as Guru, Golmaal 3, Housefull 2, OMG – Oh My God!, and The Kashmir Files. His ability to adapt and deliver stellar performances across various genres has solidified his legacy as one of Indian cinema's most versatile actors.
