MIW secure comfortable win over GGW in WPL 2024 clash
Mumbai Indians Women Secure Comfortable Victory over Gujarat Giants in WPL 2024 Encounter
In the 3rd match of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024, Mumbai Indians Women (MIW) emerged victorious with a convincing 5-wicket win over Gujarat Giants (GGT), showcasing a dominant performance throughout the game.
GGT struggled to set a challenging total, posting 126/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite contributions from skipper Mooney (24 off 22 balls), Tanuja Kanwar (28 off 21 balls), and Bryce (25 off 24 balls), they failed to build substantial partnerships against the disciplined MIW bowling attack. Amelia Kerr and Shabnim Ismail led the charge, with Kerr taking 4 wickets for 17 runs and Ismail grabbing 3 wickets for 18 runs.
Chasing the target, MIW faced an early hiccup with openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews departing cheaply, scoring only 7 runs each. However, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur anchored the innings brilliantly, scoring 46 runs off 41 balls, supported by Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr. Kerr, who was later named Player of the Match, contributed 31 runs off 25 balls. Despite a couple of wickets falling against the run of play, Kaur remained composed and guided MIW to victory with 11 balls to spare.
MIW's comfortable victory was a result of disciplined bowling and composed batting performances, highlighting their strength as a cohesive unit. With this win, MIW continues to build momentum in the WPL 2024 tournament, while GGT will be looking to bounce back stronger in their upcoming matches.
