PM Modi inaugurates Sudarshan Setu, India's Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge in Gujarat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially opened Sudarshan Setu, India's longest cable-stayed bridge, marking a significant milestone in Gujarat's infrastructure development. Stretching approximately 2.32 kilometers, Sudarshan Setu links the Okha mainland with Beyt Dwarka, an island near the renowned Dwarkadhish temple in Gujarat.
Formerly known as the 'Signature Bridge,' Sudarshan Setu stands as a testament to engineering marvels, boasting a unique design and architectural finesse. Prime Minister Modi, accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, inaugurated the bridge, which he described as his 'dream project.'
The inauguration of Sudarshan Setu underscores the government's commitment to enhancing connectivity and facilitating easier access for pilgrims and residents alike. Previously, travelers relied on boat transport to reach the revered Dwarkadhish Temple in Beyt Dwarka.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 978 crore, Sudarshan Setu features a distinctive footpath adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna, adding a cultural touch to its infrastructure. Additionally, the bridge integrates sustainability measures, with solar panels installed on the footpath generating one megawatt of electricity.
Prime Minister Modi commenced his visit to Gujarat with a roadshow in Jamnagar, where enthusiastic crowds chanted slogans in support of the Prime Minister and the nation. The inauguration of Sudarshan Setu marks a significant step forward in Gujarat's growth trajectory, promising enhanced connectivity and development opportunities for the region.
