Shoaib Bashir's brilliance puts England in control on Day 2 against India
England spinner Shoaib Bashir showcased his prowess with the ball, grabbing four crucial wickets on Day 2 of the fourth Test against India in Ranchi. His remarkable performance restricted India to 219/7 at stumps, placing England on the cusp of a significant lead.
At the close of play, Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav remained unbeaten for India, having accumulated 42 runs off 106 balls. Following Joe Root's impressive unbeaten 122, England posted a total of 353 runs before lunch.
Despite a strong start from Indian batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, who put up 82 runs on a challenging pitch, Bashir's marathon 31-over spell turned the tide in England's favor. He dismantled the Indian batting order, dismissing key players including Gill (38), Rajat Patidar, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jaiswal (73).
Bashir's dismissal of Jaiswal was particularly noteworthy, as the Indian opener fell victim to a delivery that stayed low, catching the toe end of his bat before crashing onto the stumps. Tom Hartley also contributed to England's dominance by claiming crucial wickets, reducing India to 177/7.
Earlier in the day, Root led England's charge with the bat, supported by contributions from the tailenders, including Ollie Robinson who notched his maiden Test fifty. However, Jurel's sharp catch off Jadeja's bowling ended Robinson's innings.
With England firmly in control, Day 3 promises to be another gripping chapter in this closely contested Test match between two cricketing powerhouses.
