In a thrilling encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the Delhi Capitals Women emerged victorious against the Mumbai Indians Women in the 12th Match of WPL 2024 held on 5th March 2024. The match witnessed some exceptional performances on both sides, but it was Delhi who ultimately triumphed, securing a comfortable 29-run win.

Delhi Capitals Women dominate Mumbai Indians

Winning the toss, Mumbai Indians Women elected to bowl first, aiming to restrict the Delhi Capitals Women to a manageable total. However, the Delhi batswomen had other plans as they showcased a stellar batting display. Opener and skipper Meg Lanning set the tone with a brilliant 53 runs off 29 balls, supported by Shafali Verma's quickfire 28 runs off just 12 balls. However, it was Jemimah Rodrigues who stole the show with her outstanding knock of 69 runs off 33 balls, including 8 fours and 3 sixes. The Delhi Capitals Women posted an imposing total of 192/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

In response, Mumbai Indians Women faced an uphill battle chasing down the daunting target set by Delhi. Despite a valiant effort from Hayley Matthews, who scored 29 runs off 17 balls, and Amanjot Kaur's commendable 42 runs off 27 balls, Mumbai Indians Women failed to keep up with the required run rate. S Sajana also contributed with an unbeaten 24 runs off 14 balls. However, the Mumbai Indians Women fell short, managing to score only 163/8 in their 20 overs.

Jemimah Rodrigues was awarded the Player of the Match for her exceptional batting performance, which played a pivotal role in Delhi Capitals Women's victory.

Among the Delhi Capitals Women bowlers, Jess Jonassen was exceptional, taking 3 wickets for 21 runs in her spell of 4 overs. Marizanne Kapp also made significant contributions, claiming 2 wickets for 37 runs.

With this win, the Delhi Capitals Women maintained their position at the top of the table and further boosted their net run rate. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians Women faced a disappointing defeat, with their bowlers struggling to contain the Delhi batsmen and their batswomen failing to chase down the challenging target.

Despite a strong start to the match, Mumbai Indians Women couldn't capitalize on the opportunities, ultimately falling short by a considerable margin. Delhi Capitals Women, on the other hand, displayed a dominant performance in all departments, securing a convincing victory and continuing their impressive run in WPL 2024.
