RCB Women secure convincing victory against UP Warriorz

RCB Women secure convincing victory against UP Warriorz

In a high-octane encounter at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women emerged triumphant against the UP Warriorz in the 11th match of the WPL 2024 on Monday, 4th March. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, RCBW put on a spectacular batting display, posting a formidable total of 198/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Smriti Mandhana

RCBW skipper and opener Smriti Mandhana set the stage on fire with a scintillating knock of 80 runs off just 50 balls, adorned with 10 fours and 3 sixes. She was ably supported by Ellyse Perry, who contributed a blistering 58 runs off 37 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes. Despite a commendable effort by UP Warriorz bowler Ecclestone, who claimed 1 wicket for 22 runs, and Deepti Sharma's solitary wicket, the bowling unit struggled to contain the RCBW onslaught.

In reply, UP Warriorz skipper and opener Alyssa Healy showcased resilience with a well-constructed 55 runs off 38 balls. Additional contributions from Deepti Sharma (33 runs off 22 balls) and Poonam Khemnar (31 runs off 24 balls) kept the Warriors in the hunt. However, RCBW's bowling unit, led by Sophie Devine, Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham, and Asha Sobhana, proved to be too formidable, each claiming two wickets apiece.

Despite a valiant effort by UP Warriorz, their innings fell short as they managed 175/8 in their allotted 20 overs, conceding victory to RCBW by 23 runs. Although the Warriors displayed resilience throughout their innings, the middle-order failed to capitalize on the solid foundation laid by the openers.

With this win, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women concluded their home-leg with a crucial victory, showcasing their prowess with both bat and ball. Meanwhile, UP Warriorz would be disappointed with the result but can take positives from their performance as they head into the next phase of the tournament.
