IPL 2024 set to commence in Chennai on March 22


The much-awaited 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to commence in Chennai, with the inaugural match scheduled for March 22. IPL chairman Arun Singh Dhumal confirmed the start date, expressing excitement about the upcoming season.

The IPL opening ceremony is poised to be a grand affair, with Kasi Viswanathan, CEO of the Chennai Super Kings franchise, disclosing plans for a ceremonial inauguration before the first match. Chennai holds the honor of hosting this event as the defending champions.

While anticipation is high for the opening game, there remains uncertainty regarding the teams participating. Dhumal clarified that the matchup for the inaugural game, possibly between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans, is yet to be finalized.

In the forthcoming days, IPL is expected to release a partial schedule, encompassing the initial 10-12 days of matches. However, the full schedule awaits confirmation from the Election Commission of India, as it is contingent upon the announcement of General Election dates.

With the Election Commission anticipated to disclose polling dates between the second and third week of March, IPL organizers are confident in finalizing the complete schedule without necessitating the relocation of matches outside the country. Dhumal expressed optimism about potentially involving more venues than the previously speculated ten.

As cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the commencement of IPL 2024, all eyes remain on the unveiling of the partial schedule and subsequent updates following the Election Commission's announcement.
